Katherine Traver

Director/Owner Katherine
Traver is the founder of Just For Kids, Inc.
Katherine specializes in training youth in hip-hop, break dance, jazz,
Mexican folkloric, Palmero, and the Latin dances.
After graduating from the Ambassador’s Academic Program at Metropolitan
State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Business
Administration/Management, Katherine danced for the Denver Dynamite professional
football team and the Denver Nuggets professional basketball team.
As Miss Denver Colorado in 1987, she served as a role model and a mentor
in the Mexican community and today she continues to give back in her current
community with her non-profit organization.
Katherine’s professional
dance career with her Grandmother’s dance troop Fantasia Mexicana began at the
age of seven. She toured with her
family entertaining celebrities, making commercials, and performing on
television. She also trained under
Robin and Jodi Gayton of Gayton Dance World and danced with "The Ultimate Youth
Dance Troop."
She taught at various
dance studios in Colorado for over fifteen years.
One of the highlights of her dance profession was to take part in the
urban cultural movement as a break dancer in North Denver. She traveled with an
all female group, the “Sweet Breakers” and was the only female in the elite
professional break dance crew, the “Dancers Unique”.
Some of her performance places and award winning choreography include:
The Rainbow Music Hall, The Colorado Convention Center, Taste of Colorado, Cinco
De Mayo, The Denver Nuggets Fundraiser Fashion Dance Show, Channel 7 Community
Awards, Colorado State Fair, The Fillmore Theatre, Mc Nichols Arena, The
Paramount Theatre, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Katherine applied her experiences to create an outlet for future
generations like her who had a passion for dance faced with financial barriers.
Inspiration
for JFK:
This inspired
program was
implemented as a method to bring young people of diverse cultures together
through education and dance. Katherine’s
motto is “Every Kid Counts” and has something special to offer so her
determination ensures no one is excluded from the program. Rather
everyone is given the opportunity as performers and leaders to serve their
community and be role models to peers who may also be faced with similar
circumstances.
Katherine empowers young
people to dream big and learn moral responsibility to themselves as well as
others. Her organization is proud to
advocate appreciation for cultural diversity and acceptance of the urban cultural
movement through dance and knowledge in many Colorado communities.
Katherine realized there
was a tremendous need for this type of program especially in Douglas County.
Currently, local community recreation centers and dance studios are
costly and do not offer scholarships or discounts to young people who want to
participate in their dance programs. Just
For Kids, Inc. provides opportunities to help young people outside the home and
school, and allows them to contribute to their community. Katherine
and her three children Brandon, Meagan and Logan would like to welcome all who
want to be a part of this growing program in Castle Rock and look
forward to making a positive change one community at a time!
